Ac-Leu-Val-Lys-CHO is a potent reversible peptidyl aldehyde inhibitor of Cathepsin B (IC₅₀ = 4 nM). Cathepsin B is a lysosomal cysteine protease with a role in intracellular protein degradation. Cathepsin B crosses the blood-brain barrier and elevated levels are implicated in many neurological maladies including traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease.
